If Swiping Works, Why Aren’t More People Healthy?

Reading Time: 11 minutes

Understanding the Energy Behind The Emotion Code®, The Body Code™, and The Belief Code®

When someone first learns about energy healing, one question often comes up:

“If you can release a trapped emotion, imbalance, or belief system by swiping with a magnet or your hand, why aren’t more people healthy?”

It is a fair question.

On the surface, it can sound too simple. A practitioner identifies an emotional energy, energetic imbalance, or subconscious belief. Then they swipe along the Governing Meridian, often with a magnet or hand. The session may take place in person or at a distance. The client may feel lighter, calmer, clearer, emotional, tired, or more peaceful.

So what is really happening?

Energy healing, as taught through Dr. Bradley Nelson’s work with Discover Healing, rests on the idea that the body stores information. This includes emotional experiences, energetic imbalances, and subconscious beliefs. The Emotion Code®, The Body Code™, and The Belief Code® use muscle testing to ask the subconscious mind what the body is ready to release. Discover Healing describes these three methods as tools that help locate trapped energies, imbalances, and faulty beliefs so the body can return to greater balance.

This blog will help explain swiping, magnets, the biofield, and why healing may be simple without always being instant.

What Does “Swiping” Mean in Energy Healing?

In The Emotion Code, The Body Code, and The Belief Code, practitioners often use a magnet or the hand to swipe down the back or over the head. This follows the Governing Meridian, which runs along the midline of the body.

The intention is not to force the body to heal. It is to help the body release information it no longer needs.

Think of it like deleting an old file from your internal system.

The trapped emotion, imbalance, or belief may have served a protective purpose at one point. It may have formed during grief, fear, shock, childhood conditioning, family stress, trauma, rejection, or repeated emotional pressure. Yet the body may still respond as if that old pattern remains active.

A swipe acts like a focused energetic command.

The practitioner identifies what the subconscious is ready to release. Then the swipe helps bring attention, intention, and magnetic energy to the release process.

Discover Healing explains that The Emotion Code uses muscle testing to access the subconscious mind. Muscle testing helps practitioners receive “yes” or “no” answers from the body. The goal is to identify imbalances that may contribute to emotional or physical discomfort.

Why Use a Magnet?

Magnets are used because the body has an electrical nature.

Your heart produces electrical signals. Your brain communicates through electrical impulses. Your nervous system relies on tiny electrical messages. Your cells respond to their environment through communication, signaling, and adaptation.

This does not mean a simple magnet replaces medical care. It does not.

However, in energy healing, the magnet represents a gentle energetic tool. It may help amplify intention while the practitioner works with the body’s energy field.

This is where bioenergetics becomes helpful.

Bioenergetics looks at how living systems use, store, and move energy. From a scientific lens, the body is not just chemical. It is also electrical, magnetic, emotional, and informational.

Energy healing uses this broader view of the body.

The practitioner is not treating a disease. The practitioner is helping the body release energetic interference, so the body may function with more ease.

What Is the Biofield?

The word biofield describes the field of energy and information that surrounds and interacts with the human body.

Researchers have studied therapies such as Reiki, Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch, External Qigong, and distant healing under the broader category of biofield therapies. A 2025 scoping review found 353 peer-reviewed human studies on biofield therapies, including 255 randomized controlled trials. The review noted that results remain mixed and that research methods need improvement. Yet it also showed growing scientific interest in this field.

This matters because many people assume energy healing has no research behind it. That is not accurate.

The research is still developing. It does not prove every claim. It does not prove every method works for every person. However, it does show that scientists have studied biofield therapies in real human populations.

That gives us a thoughtful bridge.

Energy healing may not fit neatly into old medical models. Yet it continues to gain attention because many people report meaningful changes.

What Does Research Say About Energy Healing?

Research around energy healing needs honesty.

Some studies show promising results. Others show mixed or unclear results. Many researchers call for stronger study designs, better reporting, and clearer definitions.

A major 2025 review found that nearly half of the included biofield studies reported positive results for all studied outcomes. Others showed mixed, nonsignificant, or negative results. The authors concluded that inconsistent reporting and research challenges limit what we can say about specific conditions.

That is important.

Energy healing should not promise cures. It should not replace medical treatment. It should not create false hope.

Instead, it can offer a gentle, complementary approach.

Many clients seek energy healing because they feel stuck. They may have already tried therapy, lifestyle changes, supplements, medication, coaching, or spiritual practices. They may still feel emotional patterns repeating.

Energy healing asks a different question:

What is the body still holding?

That question can open a new path.

How Bruce Lipton’s Work Helps Explain the Subconscious

Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., is widely known for his work connecting cell biology, perception, subconscious programming, and epigenetics. His book The Biology of Belief helped popularize the idea that our beliefs and perceptions may influence our biology and behavior.

This does not mean thoughts magically control everything. It means our internal environment matters.

If the subconscious mind carries fear, unworthiness, shame, grief, or danger signals, the body may respond accordingly. A person may consciously say, “I am safe.” Yet the subconscious may still run an older program.

This is where The Belief Code can be especially meaningful.

Discover Healing describes The Belief Code as a method that helps identify and release unwanted subconscious beliefs. These belief systems may include negative programs, limiting beliefs, faulty core beliefs, broadcast messages, images, trapped emotions, and more.

A client may not consciously know the belief exists. They may only notice the pattern.

For example:

“I always sabotage myself when things go well.”

“I know I should rest, but I feel guilty.”

“I attract the same relationship pattern.”

“I want to speak up, but my body freezes.”

“I cannot seem to receive more money, support, or love.”

These patterns may not come from logic. They may come from old subconscious programming.

So Why Aren’t More People Healthy?

If swiping works, why do people still struggle?

Because healing rarely comes from one layer alone.

A person may release a trapped emotion and feel better. Yet the body may still need hydration, sleep, minerals, movement, nervous system support, medical care, better boundaries, safer relationships, or emotional processing.

Energy healing can help release what the body is ready to release.

It does not remove every life responsibility.

It also does not bypass the body’s timing.

Sometimes, the subconscious releases in layers. One trapped emotion may sit on top of another. One belief may connect to a deeper belief. One imbalance may relate to lifestyle, toxins, inherited patterns, emotional stress, or nervous system overload.

The Body Code was created to look beyond trapped emotions alone. Discover Healing explains that The Body Code is designed to help uncover root causes of discomfort in body and spirit. It includes areas such as emotional wellness, body systems, toxins, pathogens, misalignments, and nutrition or lifestyle.

This is also where the act of swiping deserves a deeper explanation.

From the outside, swiping may look simple. A practitioner identifies an imbalance, then swipes with a magnet or hand. To someone new, it may appear as though the movement itself does all the work.

But swiping is not just a physical motion.

It is a focused energetic act.

Before the swipe, the practitioner has already used muscle testing to identify what the body is ready to release. This may be a trapped emotion, energetic imbalance, inherited energy, Heart-Wall emotion, negative belief, faulty core belief, or another subconscious pattern.

The swipe comes after the body has named what is ready.

In that moment, the practitioner is not randomly brushing energy away. They are bringing clear intention, attention, and permission to the release. The swipe helps communicate to the body that this specific energy can now let go.

The Governing Meridian matters because it connects with the body’s energetic communication system. In traditional energy systems, meridians are pathways through which life-force energy moves. The Governing Meridian runs along the midline of the back and over the head. It is often viewed as a powerful channel for directing energetic information.

So when a practitioner swipes along this meridian, the action carries meaning.

It is like sending a clear message through the body’s energetic “main line.”

The magnet or hand becomes a tool. The practitioner’s intention gives the tool direction. The subconscious mind provides the information. The body decides what it is ready to release.

All of these pieces work together.

This is why two people may receive the same swiping motion but experience different results. The swipe is not a magic trick. It is part of a larger healing conversation between the practitioner, the client, the subconscious mind, and the body’s energy system.

A person may also need multiple sessions because one release may uncover another layer.

The body may say, “This is enough for today.” That is not failure. That is wisdom.

Energy healing respects the body’s pace. It allows the system to process what has changed before asking for more. This helps the work feel gentler and more sustainable.

That is why one session can help, but a series of sessions may reveal more.

The body often heals like an onion. One layer opens the next.

Why Some People Feel a Difference Quickly

Some clients feel immediate changes.

They may feel lighter, calmer, more peaceful, sleepy, emotional, clear, or relieved. Others notice changes over several days. Some only notice later, when an old trigger no longer affects them.

This does not mean one person “did it right” and another did not.

Every body processes differently.

A client who lives in chronic stress may need more time. A client with deep grief may release slowly. A client with strong subconscious protection may only allow small shifts at first.

The body’s wisdom matters.

A session should not feel like force. It should feel like communication.

This is also why intention matters so much. Intention helps focus the session. It gives the body a clear direction. It also helps the practitioner stay connected, neutral, and grounded.

The Role of Intention: Healing Begins With Your Inner Yes

Intention matters in energy healing.

It is not about forcing the body to change. It is about giving the body a clear, loving direction. When a client begins a session with the intention to heal, release, understand, or receive support, the session often feels more focused.

Intention helps align the conscious mind, subconscious mind, body, and energy field.

This does not mean you must feel perfectly ready. Most people begin healing while they still feel scared, tired, doubtful, or unsure. That is normal.

However, a part of you must be willing to open the door.

Caroline Myss speaks often about the importance of personal responsibility in healing. In Why People Don’t Heal and How They Can, she explores how people can unconsciously stay attached to wounds, pain, identity, or old stories. Her work invites us to ask an honest question:

Do I want to heal, or do I want my wound to keep explaining who I am?

That question can feel tender. It is not meant to shame anyone. It is meant to bring compassion and awareness to the places where pain may have become familiar.

Sometimes a person truly wants relief. Yet another part of them may fear what life will require after healing.

Healing may ask us to set boundaries. It may ask us to stop repeating old roles. It may ask us to release resentment, victimhood, control, guilt, or loyalty to family pain. It may ask us to become responsible for our next choice.

That can feel uncomfortable.

This is why “wanting to heal” matters.

The practitioner can hold space. The modality can identify trapped emotions, imbalances, and belief systems. The swipe can support the energetic release. Yet the client’s willingness creates an opening.

In this way, intention becomes a sacred invitation.

It says:

I am willing to release what no longer serves me.
I am willing to see myself differently.
I am willing to let my body receive support.
I am willing to participate in my healing.

You do not need perfect faith. You do not need to know how healing will unfold. You only need a sincere willingness to begin.

That willingness can become the first shift.

Tiny Intention Practice Before a Session

Before an energy healing session, place one hand on your heart and take three slow breaths.

Then say:

“I am open to releasing what my body is ready to release today. I am willing to receive healing in the way that best supports me now.”

This simple practice helps bring your mind, body, and energy into the same conversation.

It also reminds your subconscious mind that healing does not need to be forced.

It can begin with permission.

The Emotion Code: Releasing Trapped Emotions

The Emotion Code focuses on trapped emotional energy.

Dr. Bradley Nelson teaches that emotionally charged events may leave behind energetic residue. These trapped emotions may affect how we feel, respond, connect, and move through life.

Discover Healing describes The Emotion Code as an energy healing method created by Dr. Bradley Nelson after more than 20 years as a holistic chiropractor and teacher. It focuses on releasing trapped emotions and supporting balance in body, mind, and soul.

In a session, we use muscle testing to ask the body which emotion is ready to release.

We may identify the emotion, age, origin, inherited connection, or related details. Then we release it with intention and swiping.

This can support clients who feel emotionally heavy, reactive, guarded, anxious, sad, blocked, or disconnected from themselves.

The Body Code: Looking at Whole-Body Imbalances

The Body Code includes The Emotion Code, but it goes deeper into whole-body balance.

It may explore energetic imbalances, circuits and systems, toxins, pathogens, misalignments, nutrition, and lifestyle factors. Discover Healing lists six major categories within The Body Code, including energy, circuits or systems, toxins, pathogens, misalignment, and nutrition or lifestyle.

This method can help when someone says:

“I feel like something is off.”

“I have tried so many things.”

“My body feels stuck.”

“I know stress affects me physically.”

“I want to understand what my body is asking for.”

The Body Code does not diagnose. It does not treat disease.

Instead, it helps identify energetic imbalances that may be affecting the body’s natural ability to return to balance.

The Belief Code: Releasing Deep-Rooted Belief Systems

The Belief Code works with the subconscious beliefs that shape perception.

A belief can act like a filter. It may influence how we see ourselves, others, money, love, safety, health, success, and even God or spirituality.

Discover Healing explains that The Belief Code builds on The Emotion Code and The Body Code. It helps practitioners identify and release unwanted subconscious beliefs and create space for new empowering beliefs.

This can be powerful for clients who feel trapped in repeating patterns.

You may know what you want. You may even take action. Yet something inside may pull you back.

That “something” may be a belief system.

When the body releases the energetic charge behind that belief, a client may feel more free to choose differently.

Why This Work Can Feel So Gentle Yet So Deep

Energy healing can feel gentle because the practitioner does not need to relive every story.

The body may not require a long emotional retelling.

Instead, it may only need to identify what is ready, acknowledge it, and release it.

This can feel supportive for people who feel exhausted by overthinking. It can also help those who feel tired of carrying old pain.

The process honors the body’s pace.

It also honors the client’s lived experience.

As a practitioner, healer, and life coach, I see this work as a sacred partnership. I do not “fix” you. I help create a safe space where your body can communicate what it has been holding.

Then we listen.

Then we release.

Then we allow the body to process.

A Loving Note About Medical Care

Energy healing works best as a complement, not a replacement.

Please continue to work with your doctor, therapist, chiropractor, naturopath, or licensed healthcare provider when needed. Energy work can support the emotional, energetic, and subconscious layers of healing. It should not replace emergency care, medication guidance, diagnosis, or medical treatment.

This is especially important for chronic illness, severe pain, trauma, mental health concerns, or sudden symptoms.

The goal is not either/or.

The goal is whole-person support.

Are You Ready to Experience Energy Healing?

If you feel stuck, emotionally heavy, physically tense, or caught in repeating patterns, your body may be carrying more than you realize.

Through The Emotion Code, The Body Code, and The Belief Code, we can gently explore what your subconscious mind is ready to release.

Your session may help identify trapped emotions, energetic imbalances, and deep-rooted beliefs that no longer serve you.

You do not need to understand every detail before you begin.

You only need curiosity, openness, and a willingness to listen to your body in a new way.

Healing is not always instant. It is not always linear. Yet one release can create one shift. One shift can create more space. More space can help you feel more like yourself again.

And sometimes, that is exactly where healing begins.
