Energy Healing: Is It Witchcraft?

Energy Healing: Is It Witchcraft? A Grounded Look at Fear, Faith, Belief, and Healing

Reading Time: 9 minutes

One question I hear, either directly or quietly beneath the surface, is this:

“Is energy healing witchcraft?”

It is a tender question.

For some, energy healing feels peaceful, supportive, and deeply personal. For others, it can stir fear, hesitation, or confusion.

Many people grew up in belief systems where anything unseen, intuitive, energetic, or spiritual felt suspicious. Some were taught to fear practices outside their religious framework. Others learned to distrust their own inner guidance, body wisdom, or sensitivity.

So before we explore this topic, I want to begin with compassion.

If this question lives inside you, you are not wrong for asking it.

You may simply be meeting an old belief system that wants safety, clarity, and reassurance.

Why Do Some People Connect Energy Healing With Witchcraft?

The idea often comes from fear of the unseen.

Energy healing works with subtle information. It may involve intention, muscle testing, prayerful focus, intuition, or the subconscious mind. Because these tools do not always fit neatly into conventional medicine or organized religion, people may label them as strange, unsafe, or “witchcraft.”

Culture plays a role too.

For centuries, people misunderstood healers, midwives, herbalists, intuitives, and spiritually sensitive people. Many became feared because they worked with natural remedies, body wisdom, or spiritual awareness.

Religious conditioning can also shape this fear.

Some people learned that any healing practice outside their faith tradition must come from a harmful source. Others learned that intuition, energy, or emotional release should not be trusted.

Research from Pew Research Center shows that beliefs about magic, witchcraft, evil spirits, and spiritual influence vary across religious and cultural groups. This matters because people often define “witchcraft” through family, culture, religion, fear, and personal experience.

That means people do not view “witchcraft” through one shared definition.

They often view it through the lens they inherited.

Is Witchcraft Real?

This depends on what someone means by the word.

Some people use “witchcraft” to describe harmful spiritual manipulation. Others use it to describe nature-based spirituality, folk traditions, herbalism, ritual, or modern Wicca.

Researchers have studied contemporary witchcraft beliefs around the world. One global analysis found that witchcraft beliefs still exist in many societies and often connect with cultural ideas about harm, envy, misfortune, and unseen influence.

So yes, many people believe in witchcraft.

But belief alone does not mean every unseen practice belongs in that category.

This distinction matters.

Energy healing, as I practice it, does not involve spells, control, worship, manipulation, or calling on outside forces to overpower someone’s will.

It focuses on the body’s energy, the subconscious mind, and the release of trapped emotional or belief-based imbalances.

What Separates Energy Healing From Witchcraft?

Energy healing is a supportive wellness practice.

It does not replace medical care, diagnose disease, promise cures, or force someone to believe anything.

Instead, energy healing works with the idea that the body, emotions, mind, and spirit influence one another.

Many cultures and healing traditions have recognized this connection for centuries.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health describes Reiki as a complementary health approach. Practitioners place their hands lightly on or above the person, with the goal of supporting the body’s own healing response.

That description matters.

The focus rests on support, not control.

It honors the person’s natural healing capacity.

Energy healing sessions often help people explore stress, emotional patterns, subconscious beliefs, and energetic imbalances. Clients often describe feeling calmer, clearer, lighter, or more connected to themselves.

Those experiences do not make the work witchcraft.

They make the work deeply human.

What Does Research Say About Energy Healing?

Energy healing research continues to grow.

The science does not prove every claim made in the wellness world. It also does not dismiss the whole field. Instead, it asks better questions.

NAFKAM, Norway’s National Research Center in Complementary and Alternative Medicine, describes Therapeutic Touch as a hand-mediated energy healing technique. It notes that Therapeutic Touch has been proposed to support people with cancer in managing symptoms such as anxiety, stress, pain, and fatigue. However, NAFKAM also states that the current evidence remains inconclusive due to methodological limitations in the research. This is important because it allows us to speak about energy healing with openness and discernment, without overstating claims.

A 2014 systematic review of non-touch biofield therapies examined human clinical trials involving Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, Healing Touch, and external qigong. Twelve of eighteen trials reported at least one significant primary outcome. The authors also noted the need for stronger research designs.

A 2021 rapid evidence assessment reviewed recent Therapeutic Touch studies. It looked at effectiveness and safety as a complementary health practice in clinical settings.

A 2025 meta-analysis examined Reiki therapy and quality of life. The review suggested Reiki may positively impact quality of life, while also pointing to the need for continued research.

This is how I prefer to speak about energy healing.

With openness, discernment, with respect for research, and without exaggerated claims.

Energy healing may support emotional balance, stress reduction, relaxation, self-awareness, and whole-person healing. It should work alongside appropriate medical, mental health, or professional care when needed.

Why Belief Systems Matter So Much

Now let’s move into the deeper layer.

Sometimes the question is not only, “Is energy healing witchcraft?”

Sometimes the deeper question is:

“Am I allowed to heal this way?”

That question can hold years of conditioning.

Belief systems often form early in life. We absorb ideas from parents, religion, culture, school, trauma, authority figures, and painful experiences.

As children, we rarely question those beliefs. We often accept them as truth.

A child may hear:

“Do not trust yourself.”

“That is dangerous.”

“Only certain people can help you.”

“Your body is not wise.”

“Your feelings are wrong.”

“Anything spiritual outside this box is bad.”

Those messages can become subconscious beliefs.

As adults, we may no longer agree with them consciously. Yet the body may still respond as if they are true.

This can create inner conflict.

You may feel curious about a healing modality, yet tense when you consider booking a session. Or, you may want freedom, yet feel guilt. And you may desire deeper healing, yet fear doing something wrong.

This does not mean you lack courage.

It may mean an old belief system still guards the door.

How Beliefs Can Sabotage Healing

Subconscious beliefs can shape how open we feel to support.

They may affect how safe we feel in our body.

They may influence whether we trust ourselves.

They may even affect whether we allow life to improve.

Some beliefs sound like this:

“I am not safe.”

“Healing is dangerous.”

“I cannot trust my intuition.”

“If I change, I will lose people.”

“I must suffer to be good.”

“I am wrong for wanting more.”

“God will be disappointed in me.”

“My body cannot heal.”

“No one can help me.”

These beliefs can create patterns.

A person may avoid support. They may overthink every decision, stay loyal to fear, or dismiss anything that brings relief because relief feels unfamiliar.

This is where energy healing can become very meaningful.

Not because it tells you what to believe.

But because it can help you explore what your subconscious mind may already be holding.

Dr. Bradley Nelson’s Work and the Subconscious Mind

Dr. Bradley Nelson developed The Emotion Code®, The Body Code™, and The Belief Code®.

Discover Healing describes these methods as energy healing systems that involve releasing trapped emotions, energies, and faulty beliefs to support emotional and physical balance.

These methods rely on muscle testing to communicate with the subconscious mind. Discover Healing also describes them as non-invasive methods.

In my sessions, I use this work to ask the subconscious mind what may need attention.

The subconscious mind stores memories, emotions, protective patterns, and beliefs. It often wants to keep us safe. Yet sometimes it protects us with outdated information.

For example, a child may learn that speaking up leads to rejection.

As an adult, that person may still feel unsafe using their voice.

The threat may no longer exist.

But the belief may remain.

What Is The Belief Code?

The Belief Code is one of Dr. Bradley Nelson’s deeper methods.

Discover Healing describes it as a method that builds on The Emotion Code and The Body Code. It helps practitioners identify and release unwanted subconscious beliefs and create space for more supportive beliefs.

This work can feel especially relevant for people who feel blocked by old conditioning.

The Belief Code looks at belief systems, negative programs, faulty core beliefs, and patterns that may live beneath conscious awareness.

For this topic, examples might include:

“Energy healing is unsafe.”

“I will be punished for healing.”

“I cannot trust my own discernment.”

“I must follow fear to stay safe.”

“My body’s wisdom is not trustworthy.”

“I am not allowed to choose my own path.”

A session does not require you to force a new belief.

It invites the subconscious mind to reveal what may be ready to shift.

That distinction matters.

True healing does not bypass your discernment.

It strengthens it.

How The Emotion Code, Body Code, and Belief Code Can Support You

Each method offers a different doorway.

The Emotion Code focuses on trapped emotions. These emotional energies may come from past experiences, inherited patterns, or intense moments the body never fully processed.

The Body Code offers a broader map. It may look at emotional, energetic, structural, nutritional, toxic, or other imbalances from an energetic perspective.

The Belief Code works with subconscious belief systems. It can help uncover deeper beliefs that may influence choices, patterns, emotions, relationships, and healing.

Together, these methods can support whole-person awareness.

They may help you understand why you feel stuck.

They may help you notice why certain fears repeat.

They may help you explore what your subconscious mind learned long ago.

And as a natural by-product, shifting deep-rooted beliefs can affect more than one area of life.

When a person feels safer trusting themselves, everything can begin to change.

Their boundaries may shift.

Their voice may strengthen.

Their body may soften.

Their relationships may become more honest.

Their healing path may feel less frightening.

A Grounded Way to Explore Energy Healing

You do not need to abandon your values to explore energy healing.

You do not need to believe everything.

You do not need to override your faith, discernment, or intuition.

Start with simple questions.

Ask yourself:

“Where did I learn this was unsafe?”

“Is this fear mine, or did I inherit it?”

“What do I believe will happen if I try this?”

“Does this belief create peace, or does it create fear?”

“Can I stay connected to God, love, and truth while exploring healing?”

“What would discernment look like without panic?”

These questions can reveal a lot.

You can also pray, journal, breathe, walk, or sit quietly with your body.

Notice whether your fear feels like wisdom or conditioning.

Wisdom often feels steady.

Conditioning often feels urgent, tight, and punishing.

Tips for Understanding This Work Before Booking a Session

Here are gentle steps to help you explore energy healing with confidence.

1. Define what scares you

Write down the exact fear.

Do not stop at “I am scared.”

Ask, “What am I scared this means?”

You may discover a deeper belief beneath the surface.

2. Separate energy healing from entertainment

Halloween imagery can make everything look spooky.

Energy healing sessions do not need drama.

They can feel calm, respectful, and grounded.

3. Keep your discernment

A healthy practitioner will not ask you to surrender your agency.

You should feel respected, informed, and free to say no.

4. Start with education

Read about the method.

Ask how sessions work.

Learn the difference between emotional release, muscle testing, belief work, and medical treatment.

5. Notice your body

Your body often tells the truth before your mind can explain it.

Tightness, ease, tears, peace, resistance, and curiosity can all offer information.

6. Explore The Belief Code

If fear keeps blocking your next step, belief work may help.

You may not need more information.

You may need to release the belief that makes healing feel unsafe.

Is Energy Healing Witchcraft?

In my practice, no.

Energy healing is not witchcraft.

It is not spellwork.

It is not control.

It is not manipulation.

It is not a replacement for your faith, medical care, or personal responsibility.

Energy healing is a supportive practice that works with the subconscious mind, trapped emotions, energetic imbalances, and belief systems.

It can help you understand the patterns behind your pain.

It can help you explore what your body and subconscious mind have carried.

It can help you reconnect with your own inner wisdom.

For some, this feels unfamiliar.

For others, it feels like coming home.

A Compassionate Closing Thought

If you grew up fearing anything unseen, you may need time.

That is okay.

Healing does not need force.

You can move slowly.

You can ask questions.

You can bring your faith, your discernment, and your values with you.

Sometimes the fear of healing does not mean healing is wrong.

Sometimes it means an old belief system feels threatened by your freedom.

And that may be exactly where the healing begins.

If you feel curious about this work, The Emotion Code, The Body Code, and especially The Belief Code can help you explore what your subconscious mind may be holding.

Together, we can gently look at trapped emotions, energetic imbalances, and deep-rooted beliefs that may affect your ability to heal, grow, trust yourself, and move forward.

You do not have to force yourself into openness.

You can simply begin with curiosity.

And curiosity may become the doorway to a more peaceful, empowered, and whole version of you.
